Cemeteries can be refuges from the world and help us to feel close to those we love but have lost for a time. But for some, especially seniors, many of the graves of their loved ones are not in close proximity to them. They cannot go and place a flower at a grave site.
For many seniors, there are loved ones who were lost at war, there is no grave site for them to visit. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Vietnam Memorial among others were created to provide a place for those who have lost a loved one to come to honor the dead. These are wonderful national memorials, but it was a simple book written by Richard Paul Evans called the Christmas Box which gave rise to the "Angel of Hope" which has served as a solace for many.
In the book, a woman mourns the loss of her child at the base of an angel monument. Following the phenomenal success of the book, Richard Paul Evans became aware that many who were grieving were searching for similar angels to help them grieve and heal. He commissioned an angel statue to be placed in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. Since then others across the nation have recognized their value and placed them in cemeteries. Whether you have a nearby grave or not something about the Angel seems to heal and give rise to hope. Indeed, if you look closely you can find on the angel's right wing the word "hope."
A place of peace and remembrance best describes the Angel of Hope statue at Evergreen Memorial Park in Ogden. Many who have seen the Angel statue feel a sense of inspiration and encouragement. Those who have loved ones buried at Evergreen Memorial Park, treasure the reassuring feelings of comfort and protection the Angel has brought to the park.
"I feel there is a guardian angel watching over my daughter," said a parent seeking comfort near the angel statue. "I go to my son's grave to be close to him, commented a young mother. But I go to the Angel statue to feel my son close to me."
At any given time, there are letters, flowers, stuffed animals and other cherished objects left as memorial tributes at the feet of the Angel. Located at 100 Monroe Blvd Ogden Utah, this Angel is the only one North of Salt Lake City. The Myers' family is honored to share the peace, consolation and comfort of the Angel of Hope. Stop by any time you feel troubled at heart.
The Angel of Hope shares her peace with all.
